PMR cyclical research studies show that inflation continues to have a significant impact on Poles' purchasing decisions. According to our latest survey from May 2023, 82% of shoppers (overall) are cutting down on their purchases due to price increases. In the grocery market, due to the specific nature of the products, the impact is weaker – Poles, influenced by inflation, are modifying their behaviour rather than reducing their grocery shopping. More than 60% of respondents declare that they cook at home more often than a year earlier, search for promotions in shop magazines or prepare meals from products that are currently on special offer.
Inflation is also affecting the supply side of the market and the increase in the cost of doing business makes it increasingly difficult for medium-sized players to operate independently in the market. This provides an opportunity for intensifying consolidation processes that takes place primarily through the development of franchise chains. PMR data show that franchising already accounts for more than 30% of the value of sales in the grocery market .
